German-native Chrystoph Marten commenced his career as a hairstylist with a prestigious apprenticeship at renowned Japanese Hair Salon 'Tani Hair' in Frankfurt, Germany. His dedication to organic shapes and his inherent appreciation of hair texture and movement found high acknowledgment among owners Sayuri & Misako Tani and earned him an assistant position with internationally acclaimed hair salon 'Vidal Sassoon' in Munich, Germany. After completing a comprehensive trainee program in the art of Vidal Sassoon hair cutting, Chrystoph was offered the position of Editorial Director at Vidal Sassoon in New York. Over the course of seven years, he helped establish the Vidal Sassoon brand as a well-respected competitor on the international fashion scene. Among his many performances were Fashion Shows in New York, London and Paris for an illustrious group of acclaimed fashion designers, such as Hermes and John Bartlett.
In 2004, Chrystoph Joined the team of Arrojo Studio New York, where he conceptualized and implemented the creation of an annual underground hair show. The event showcases Chrystoph's professional expertise and creative talent in the formation of an innovative environment to stimulate and exhibit avant-garde developments in fashion design and hairstyle concepts. All three shows for Arrojo Studio - Dunkelheit (2004), Funkstörung (2005), Arlequins (2006) - have received immediate critical acclaim by the public, the press and hair professionals. His profound inspirations and artistic experimentations captured the eye of high-end fashion designers and commercial retailers alike. Subsequent collaborations with emerging talents in the fashion world have included designers Zac Posen, Nicholas K, Naum, Julia Jentzsch, Derek Lam and Cloak. Simultaneously, Chrystoph teamed up with retailer Limited Brands to create original hairdos for the supermodel-inspired mannequins at Victoria's Secret's redesigned concept stores nationwide.
In April 2007, Chrystoph established his eponymous hair salon in the heart of the Gallery District in West Chelsea, introducing a novel and sophisticated approach to the art of hairstyling with elegance and functionality, guided by the traditional principles of craftsmanship and innovation. Located in the midst of an eclectic array of talented new artists, 'Chrystoph Marten' is dedicated to provide his clientele with customized and progressive hairstyles in a relaxing and intimate setting.
Most recently, Chrystoph reinvented his annual underground hair show as a performance art piece - collaborating with avant-garde music artists and cutting-edge fashion designers to showcase the latest developments in music, fashion and beauty. His first independently produced hair show "Das Ideale Weib" was hosted at his salon in May 2008.
